A home cook revealed her simple way to reheat the cooked rice in the microwave without further drying.

Mon Mack from Brisbane put an ice cube on top of her leftover rice, and then covered the plate with a crumpled baking paper.

After heating the salmon pan in the microwave for 30 seconds, she took out the baking paper and ice cubes that did not seem to melt.

This method is effective because the baking paper helps the steaming process in the microwave to make the rice steamed perfectly, fluffy and fresh.

According to the test kitchen, the water molecules in the ice help to steam the rice without drying it out.

Scientific research editor Paul Adams explained the chemistry of why ice cubes remain intact in a microwave oven.

'Microwave heats food by causing specific types of molecules inside the food-mainly water molecules-to vibrate quickly. In ice, water molecules are rigidly locked to each other in the crystal structure, so they do not vibrate," he said.

'In this hack, the rice gets hot (because its grain contains water), and the heat of the rice warms the surface of the ice cubes, so they melt a bit.

"Then the liquid water released from the melted ice is boiled in a microwave oven and turned into steam, and then the rice is steamed."

After sharing her meal creative video on TikTok, many people wondered why Mon added an ice cube to her bowl.

"What is the ice in the middle of the salmon bowl?" one person asked, and another added, "What is the ice for?"

Many people answered these questions quickly, and one of them explained: "Ice cubes are used to steam the leftover rice... If you have fresh rice, you don't have to do this."

Another said: "It makes the leftover rice more fluffy and tastes fresh."

One woman added: “It helps steam rice in the microwave...I usually just add a little water so that the rice does not harden.”
